Detroit – Whiskey on Wheels

Detroit - Whiskey on Wheels

Detroit served as the northern gateway for Canadian whisky. Some operators turned necessity into spectacle. Johnny “The Fox” ran mobile speakeasies, transporting patrons in trucks with hidden compartments. Jazz floated through the cabins as bourbon and rye were poured. A federal agent once attempted a sting—Johnny’s crew switched liquor barrels for decoys, leaving authorities with nothing but empty bottles.

Detroit’s success relied on redundancy: multiple suppliers, multiple routes, multiple plans. Every city block was a chessboard, every shipment a calculated move.
