Louis “Lepke” Buchalter was the big boss of Murder, Inc., a real mastermind of mayhem. Born in the mean streets of the Lower East Side, he climbed the criminal ladder with brains and brutality. Lepke was no ordinary thug; he was a businessman in the underworld, running labor rackets and extortion schemes with a ruthless efficiency. He controlled the unions and made millions, all while keeping a tight leash on his crew of killers. Buchalter was the kind of guy who ordered hits like a CEO signs off memos, cool and calculated. The law chased him for years, but Lepke was slippery, always a step ahead. When they finally nabbed him, it was big news. The feds made sure he got the chair in ’44, but not before he made his mark as one of the most notorious gangsters to ever run the streets. His name still echoes in the annals of crime, a reminder of how deep the shadows can get when you’re dealing with a guy like Lepke.
