Carmine “The Cigar” Galante was a stone-cold killer with a lust for power, born in East Harlem in 1910. This guy was ruthless, rising through the ranks of the Bonanno crime family with a trail of bodies behind him. Galante had a vision for controlling the drug trade, especially heroin, and he didn’t care who he had to take out to make it happen. Known for chomping on a cigar even while doing business, he struck fear into everyone who crossed his path. His ambition made him a lot of enemies, both inside and outside his own family. In 1979, his brutal reign came to a bloody end when he got whacked in a Brooklyn restaurant, still with that cigar clenched between his teeth. Galante lived and died by the gun, leaving behind a legacy of terror and greed in the annals of mob history.
